About Storytelling
Definition of Storytelling:
A communication device used by many Native Americans tribes, storytelling is used to pass traditions from generation to generation. Every person has his/her own definition of storytelling, but most of the definitions are similar.
  • Storytelling is a whole set of events that happen in hopes that the person picks out what the purpose of this story is, like trying to get across something such as a "value" that has to be taught and just telling the story hoping that the person understands what kind of value that is trying to be put upon them.

  • Storytelling is passed down knowledge and traditions through recounting daily activities such as, culture, traditions, and history.

- Kiowa Man

  • Storytelling is a way of passing on information to the next generation. In storytelling everyone listens. For instance, when a story is told you put everything aside.

Traditional stories are about beliefs, customs, and values that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Ceremonial stories are about how tobacco can be used in sacred rituals.

Personal stories are about an individual's personal experiences with tobacco.
